12 Mar 06 NCAA Bracket Challenge! Tim vs. a Coin!

I joined up with NCAA pool to do two things. First, to help an old camp buddy of mine, Mike Riopel, raise some money to participate in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training marathon. Second, I want to compare my college basketball prediction skills vs. that of a 1983 minted US quarter. Look for updates on who is the victor!

If you want to join the pool, go for it! It’s a $20 entry fee with $10 going to the fund and then $10 going to the bracket pot. Winner of the brackets gets the pot.

First, go here to sign up:

The password is marathon.

Then, wander here to donate $20. Even if you don’t join up, donate to help Mike out!

16 Jun 05 Balls of Steel Update

Alas, things have not been going well for out heros, Balls of Steel.

We lost out last two games, brining us to 2-2-1. It brings us to 5th place out of 8. Hey, we’re still first place of the lower half of the league. :) There’s a peak of positive in everything.

I think we might have found a theme to our loses… lack of beer. We played the games without any beer, and we didn’t do so well. Maybe the beer makes us a little more roudy and active, or maybe I’m grasping at straws here.

In any case, our next game will be @ 9:00pm at Demetral Field # 3. I might be umping the game before us, so gome cheer us on and for heavens sake, remember the beer!

06 Jun 05 Balls of Steel, Week 3-4

Updates updates updates, here are a bunch more!

The latest game of Balls of Steel vs Capital Kickers ended in a tie! The final score was 2-2. Balls of Steel managed to pull off the tie even with reduced numbers. We ended up only have 7 players vs the Kickers 12 or so players. We were outnumbered! Though even with the additional fielders playing for the Kickers, Steel still squeaked out a tie. There was some… questionable pitching from the Kickers, a bit too fast. Normally I would not comment on the speed of the pitches. I can hear you all shouting “Tim’s a pansy, can’t kick a fast kickball eh!?” I comment on it since the rules this season forbid any fast or unusual style of pitching, including curve, side arms, etc styles. The Balls of Steel was called on it in an earlier game, so I am rather disappointed the umps and field monitor didn’t mention anything to the kickers.

Don’t believe me, here’s the rules: Rules (PDF Format)

Come watch tonight at 9pm for more Balls of Steel fun! We will be fighting to keep out position as the 1st place team! :)

18 May 05 Balls of Steel, Season 2

Balls of Steel is back!

We are back again in our second season. Last year, we finished in 4th place. Not bad for losing just about all of our games.

This year, we are off to a 2-0 start.

The first game was back and forth between Balls of Steel and the Cage Fighting Ligers. We went back and forth with the lead a few times, but won with a score of 15-12. The big news is we had two homeruns. That never happened last year! Here’s to hoping it was not a one time thing. :)

This week we fought Going, Going, Going… Crap. Shockingly enough, we came out on top. We played hard and won with a shutout with a homerun. The score was 4-0.

Come on out to watch us play some Monday night! MUSA Monday Night Schedule & Standings

Our next game is Monday, May 23rd @ 6.00pm. Be there!

We play at Demetral Park, field #3. Directions

24 Sep 04 Balls of Steel vs. Last Kid Picked

It was a valient effort, but alas… We fell once again to the opposite team by the score of 3-1… I believe, could be wrong on the score. But lose we did, at the hands of our own teammates!?

See, the other team was short players, and we had an over abundance of players. Our team is mostly implimentors, so they are all in town this week for UGM. That won’t be the case in the coming weeks as I am sure our attendance will dwindle with more and more people out of town.

Back to the game, the opposite team didn’t have enough players. Since wa had many, they had few, we loaned them a few players for the game. So it was Us vs. Us & Them… weird. It was a close game at times, but we seemingly took to long and kept kicking the ball too far forward of home base. Our team mates on the other team had a rock’n game! Too bad it counted for the other team… Oh well, good times were had by all.

Speaking of good times, I need to have a wrap-up of UGM. It’s our User’s Group Meeting for all Epic customers. We normally put on this big production for the customers around a central theme. This years theme: Superhero’s of Healthcare. I was in the multimedia presentation for the session. That was fun! I was Super Doc and have the pictures, trading cards, and 6-foot cutout to prove it. Feel rather sheepish about the entire thing really, seems like a lot of attention for just a little part.

16 Sep 04 Balls of Steel vs Nexus of the Universe

Behold, the power of beer!

That seemed to be the teams downfall. Most of the team was a sober (my state during the game), a wee bit tipsy to flat out hammered. While we lost the game 10-2, all the drunken folks sure made the game interesting! The bar next to the fields has the best after game snack, $1 tacos! Kickball and tacos, who could ask for anything more!

On the work front, I had my first session of my new Reporting Workbench class. It went over great! I have some ideas to add into the course and things to revise, but the initial pilot was well recieved. That was the highlight of my day.

Now to sleep. I have not been getting enough of it, and it’s showing. Been a little run down and mentally down and out from being too tired. Some good sleep tonight, and I will be right as rain tomorrow.

Speaking of the weekend, sounds like most everyone is going to be gone. Looks like it might be a quiet weekend. Know of something going on? Email me or give me an IM on AIM @ uwflatlander.

13 Sep 04 Epicdemic, Week 1

Today marks the first go at the bowling league for my team, Epicdemic. We are an intense group of bowlers showing everyone how it’s done (or not done) every Monday at 6.30 pm at Schwoegler Parktown Lanes.

The team:

  • Tim Schaab
  • Jeremy Hung
  • Jennifer Tucker
  • Gerald Godwin

Of course, we are all Epic representatives. Hence the name, Epicdemic.

This first game we established our averages, so we are not sure how we did until next week. Jeremy and I had strong finishes, each finishing in the upper 400s for total pinfall. My personal best score from the day, 170.

Stay tuned for next week to see how we did against our competition!

09 Sep 04 Kickball Game 1: Balls of Steel vs. Git R’ Dun

The first game of the Madison Midwestern Unusual Sports Association’s Kickball League for Balls of Steel was an impressive powerhouse showing!

In our first attempt at kickball glory, we came out on top! We played verse Git R’ Dun, a more experienced team. How are they more experienced? They brought beer……. shamefully, we did not. :( Next game though, alcohol for all!

The next game, I’ll try to bring my camera… and some beer!

Next game is Thursday, 16-Sep-04 @ 7.30 pm in Brandt Park in McFarland. Here are some Directions. Our competition this go round: Nexus of the Universe

See you at the game!
