New Fish, Need Names

Filed under: Tim News — Tim @ 12:40 am

New fish here at the Schaab house. We got an additional Kenyi Cichlid and a Plecosomus, an algae eater. The cichlid is a male (a nice yellow color), so I am hoping that eventually he will mate with one of the fish in the tank. It seems the tank can easily become the Love Tank since both fish currently inhabiting the tank, Heidi and Tweedledee, were born there.

Though, they need names! I am blanking out on good names. I was thinking of naming the pleco Suckface since that is all he does. I shy away from that since it is too common a name. I want something a little better.

If you have some suggestions, leave a comment on this post. All suggestions taken!

Just a note to point me back to a potential program to use on Fenrir. It"s a neat RSS aggregator that I might try to install.

When watching the American Idol auditions, the mute button becomes the most important button in the world.

Yikes. Really… Yikes.

Email Under Control!

Filed under: Internet Finds, Software — Tim @ 10:52 pm

ClearContect Rocks!

I found this software through a Download Squad story. The system has utilities and features to help prioritize, sort, and hammer through the massive amount of emails I can get. I can get to the important items fast, and sort them really quick.

Go check it out! They have a new beta that was recently released for version 2. I have not tried the beta yet. If the current release is a indicator of the next version, version 2 should be even better!

Great Picture!

Mini-Van + Fire Hydrant = Great Picture!

A California woman accidentally backed the vehicle over the hydrant. The water pressure was so great that it lifted the tail off the ground.

The car stood poised on its noise for several minutes.

Goals & Planning Help

Filed under: Internet Finds — Tim @ 5:18 pm

I am looking to get a little bit better at planning and goal setting. One site I have been reading is Steve Pavlina"s blog. He gives some insights on planning, goals, and a number of personal improvement areas. It gives me some good ideas here and there to work into my own rythme, which feels like it is getting in utter chaos.

One thing he mentions is a book on planning that I am thinking to hunt down, or borrow from the library. The book is on how to get your plans done effectively. Something I could use some more work at.

David Allen’s excellent Getting Things Done
Quarterly Planning Time

Update: Looks like I don’t need to go get it, I already have it! I bought it a while ago when looking for time management books. Now I just have to push it in my book queue.

Light, Free, Easy Windows PDF Viewer

Filed under: Internet Finds — Tim @ 9:54 pm

Via Slashdot, I found this nice piece of software called Foxit Reader. It is much smaller and faster than Adobe"s PDF reader. I find that a huge bonus as Adobe Reader is bloated and slow. This app works great so far.

Foxit Reader is a free reader for PDF (eBook) documents. You can view and print PDF documents with it.

11.5 Hours of Livesaving Fun

Filed under: Tim News — Tim @ 11:43 pm

Time to get that certificate back up to snuff. Can Tim survive 11.5 hours of livesaving CPR and first aid training when all he really wants is a solid nights sleep!?

Stay tuned…

Pasha!

Filed under: General, Notes — Tim @ 12:34 am

Thought I would throw this out there, a picture of Pasha. He was an old family dog from when I was born. Pasha has made me today really want to get an Alaskan malamute. Hopefully, Leah and I will be getting one soon. Stay tuned!

Madison Flag

Filed under: General, Notes — Tim @ 12:05 am

I have been wanting to get a flag from Madison for some time now, looks like I will be able to do that now! From an article in The Capital Times, I have found a place to go to. I have a quest now. :)

Pain In The…

Filed under: Tim News — Tim @ 7:16 pm

Hand…

I don’t know why, but my hand is starting to hurt/annoy me. It is getting very painful on it’s own, and when I try to do some things, it hurts even more. Things like open cans of soda, shift the gears of my car, and squeeze things.

Leah and I worry that it might be arthritis. Now that would not be a good blow for Tim. Arthritis at 25 (soon to be 26), and in my right hand to boot. My left hand feels fine, which is the odd point. Maybe I should just learn to do everything left handed. That would be fun to watch. :)

I will reserve any diagnosis until I see a doctor after this *wonderful* week of training I have coming up. I have so much stuff to do, it would be nice to take a break from training for a bit to get it worked on and finished. I think it might be arthritis, but then I think otherwise at times because of where it hurts. It does hurt at the joints a bit, but it hurts the most in the middle of my right hand, away from the joints. Weird.

Off to dinner with the family, see ya!

Extra Websites, What To Do?

Filed under: General, Server — Tim @ 6:58 pm

After a few server moves and multiple servers, I have two spare domains I need to do something with.

Madtown.cc is my old RSS news feed site. All the sites I normally read were fed to that site so I can see everything in one nice page. Though, now I use Bloglines for that, so I disabled the old software I had running. The old software also really slowed down the server at times. I never tracked down why it did that. I just became fed-up with the performance issures and went to Bloglines.

Fenrir.us is a site I registered for a new server I leased. The one you are connected to right now.  The Fenrir.us site just says hi, and nothing more.

What should I do… a few ideas:

  1. Move my photo gallery to one of the sites
  2. Set-up something to collect all the comics I read on a daily basis to one place.
  3. Some random weird random quote generator… Hmmm, that sounds like fun…
